(First posted at How Do You Do It? http://www.hdydi.com as part of the "Food, Cooking, and Eating" Theme week. A month ago, we had dinner at the Calgary Airport. What better restaurant to have our last meal in oil and beef-heaven than at a steakhouse? The waitress greets us with a cheery smile, asks us … Continue reading Mum Connections
Category: Our trials and joys of parenting twins
Maher and I are slowly figuring out how to take care of two same age children. There have been crazy hard times and stunningly beautiful ones.
“Afu ge ge”, “Leila mei mei”
“Which twin is older?” The question is absurd. In China, I get it all the time. And it works me up. “They are twins. They are the same age.” I reply, irritated. “Yes, but they didn’t both come out at the same time, did they? One had to have been born first.” They insist, “Is … Continue reading “Afu ge ge”, “Leila mei mei”
We had to laugh (in retrospect) when… Part 2
...L asked to watch "Happy Shit." Her favorite animated movies right now are Tangled and Happy Feet. ...R put his hand in the potty after he actually pee'd in it. Then he tipped it over. Even better, I dropped the potty on my way to empty it, a couple of times already. ...L stuck Maher's … Continue reading We had to laugh (in retrospect) when… Part 2
Practice at home with your little yogis.
Here's my five cents on the "Saving money with multiples" theme week at How Do You Do It? ----------------------- The yoga industry has become a multi-billion dollar industry, attracting hordes of us to join the trend. It’s wonderful that more people are benefiting from yoga, but it’s not so straightforward to know what you really … Continue reading Practice at home with your little yogis.
“Look at her…”
After thirteen hours on a plane that left Vancouver at 3am, we get to the transfer security when a mum turns to her crying daughter, around two years old, "Look at her," she points at L. "She's not crying. Why do you have to cry?" A couple of days ago at the Chinook mall in … Continue reading “Look at her…”
The Perfect Maclaren: Will We Make It?
When I learned that I share one thing with Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lopez, I was excited: the Maclaren Twin Techno double stroller. So it's not more glamorous than that, but hey, it's something. I "upgraded" from our well-used Twin Triumph only a few months ago. The first time I used it I was ecstatic. … Continue reading The Perfect Maclaren: Will We Make It?

The Monkey Song
The Monkey Song from the Jungle Book is one of our favorites. The music is catchy, the dancing good fun, and the animation colourful. R pretends to play the trumpet like the monkeys. L watches intently, and loves the other two main songs as well, the Elephant march with Colonel Hathi, and "The Bare Necessities", … Continue reading The Monkey Song
Dragon and Phoenix Twins
“Are they Dragon Phoenix Twins?” I am asked every day, everywhere, and by everyone around me in Chengdu. “Yes, they are,” I reply. “Waaaaa” they exclaim with glee, and huge smiles, “You are very lucky. How happy you must be.” Twins generate as much or dare I say more excitement here in China as anywhere … Continue reading Dragon and Phoenix Twins
